Landfill Inspiration

At the moment, our waste habits here in NYC are unacceptable. But the typical New Yorker works off of the idea that if it’s out of sight, then it’s out of mind. One solution to change this mentality would be to put landfills back in sight.

It might be worthwhile for NYC to reintroduce landfills as an act of environmental justice. Why should we be permitted to dump our trash on someone else’s space? It would also save tons of carbon emissions from polluting the shared atmosphere of the entire country, and even the globe, if we had a more local solution for our solid waste.

When we think about landfills, we view them mostly in a negative light. But why not dream further? Dream about a sustainable landfill. Landfill inspiration for NYC can be seen in the Dudaim Landfill, located in the south of Israel. The methane gas emitted from this landfill is funneled through pipes which then entirely powers two nearby communities!
